New State Law Requires Two New Vaccinations. A new state law that takes effect Sept. 1, 2005, will require that children attending child-care facilities, including Head Start and pre-kindergarten, or being admitted to residential child-care facilities, including Child-Placing Agencies, be vaccinated against hepatitis A and pneumococcal disease for the first time. State Representative Bill Zedler of Arlington passed House Bill 1316 in the regular session of the 79th Texas Legislature, which amended the Human Resources Code to include these diseases. Children who attend any regulated child day-care or residential child-care facility were already required to be immunized against measles, mumps, tetanus, polio, rubella, rubeola, and other communicable childhood diseases.
